Can the color you wear change your life?
Does the color you are wearing have an effect on how you are treated and how you treat others? Deb Snyder, PhD, author of Intuitive Parenting will be experimenting with the significance of clothing color this February. For one year she will be wearing nothing but white and documenting her experiences as a part of her “Purity: An Experiment in White” project. To join Deb in her journey of self-exploration you can commit to wearing white for a month or as long as you wish. She only asks that you share your experience to see if “our intention to purity of heart, supported by the action of wearing white clothing can lead to dramatic shifts in our experiences.”
If you would like to be a part of Deb’s experiment, go to www.purityinwhite.com for more information. Keep us all up to date on your transformation here as well!
“I’ll Do It Later, Maybe” And Other Mantras That Could Change Your Life
There are plenty of 10-minute meditations you can try, but I always like to begin with a nice bout of procrastination. All you need to start is a pressing task. I like to choose a nice juicy one that really stresses me out. Then I focus on that damn task like a ninja. I imagine the feel of the paper as I pay the bills or the grease in that nasty pot soaking in my sink.
Try it. Feel all of the pressure that comes with your chosen task and then vigorously fail to do it. Downright refuse. Imagine your loved ones looking on with disapproval as you refuse to clean the kitchen. Notice how it makes you feel.
Say to yourself, “I will do it in ten minutes.” Repeat this phrase as often as necessary, continuing to focus on the task. Shoot for ten minutes, but even a minute or two can be an insightful exercise.
Now go about your day. Congratulations. You just meditated.

Meeting a 70-Year-Old Woman Finishing the Appalachian Trail
I love this exuberant and inspirational blog post from author of Most Good Least Harm, Zoe Weil. Zoe is the co-founder and President of the Institute for Humane Education (IHE). IHE works to create a world in which we all live humanely, sustainably, and peaceably.
Yesterday I hiked the last leg of the Appalachian Trail (AT) up Katahdin Mountain in Maine with my good friend and fellow humane educator, Freeman Wicklund. Freeman began the AT in Georgia in March and hiked more than 1,300 miles to Connecticut before a stress fracture in his foot laid him up for a month of healing. He hitchhiked up to Maine on Labor Day to resume the trail, this time heading south. (more…)
Determination — a blog post by Dr. Craig Martin
Dr. Craig Martin, author of Elemental Love Signs, has a very thoughtful blog. I like to re-post his musings from time to time. I liked this one today.
To terminate is to end — to say no — to put a stop to something. By contrast, de-termination, means to continue – to not say no.
The inner voice is a tricky thing. We want to believe that it’s a positive voice, but it also houses all our fears, inhibitions, and the natural inertia that we experience as human beings. We often hear and listen to the inner part of ourselves that says “no”.
But, to be determined, is to set strong feet in the soil of your vision. We must work around the voice that says “no”, the voice of our fears. We must find the way to continue and take one more step.
We cheer for determination. And if you want to be determined you will have to be your best cheerleader. When we see that someone won’t give up, we respect that. It’s an admirable quality determination — a quality that little would get done without.
If you want to get something accomplished, anything, from finding a job to losing a few pounds, you must not terminate your efforts, you must be determined – you must root yourself on, and continue.

Hillary Rubin: Let Go Of Your Social Anxiety
Yoga teacher Hillary Rubin teaches us to let down the masks that create your anxiety by being transparent in relationships – this builds trust & love.
For most of my life I put on masks to fit into circles of friends or to get a job and began to lose myself. I have found that as children we are seeking our identity outside as we are still forming physically, emotionally, and if we are lucky, spiritually.
I went from being the tomboy, to the tomboy princess to the NY fashionista to the LA yoga teacher. There are many more roles I play that we all play in life. And the question is are they all you. I used to think not because I would hide who I was behind to fit in. Even as an adult I did this. Only my really close friends would see my quirky playful side and this was few and far between.
